One Hulk of a Guy!

I've just been aching to draw a caricature of one of my painting professors, Erik Olson. He's one beast of a man, a force to be reckoned with, and one heck of a painter/teacher. I did a quick marker rendering of this drawing and posted it on his office door this past weekend. Too bad I didn't get a scan of that version but I was too busy running for my life.

You know, there's a question I meant to ask you a while back, kept forgetting about it.

Out of curiosity, where did you learn to draw caricatures? It's been something that I thought would be a great exercise, but I have yet to find a book or something that can help me out......

That's your teacher??!! Looks like he would have a light touch on the pencil...

I think you should drop the class before he takes your lunch money.

Hey Jon!

Yeah, caricatures can be a tricky beast! But they can be a lot of fun. It would probably be easiest to learn how to draw portraits first but not necessarily. Plus, your caricature ability will only increase as you improve your basic drawing skills.

Another great place to start would be to look at Tom Richmond's tutorials he's been doing since he's much better than me:

Hope this helps a bit. Keep up the great work man!

Thanks James!

BD- I know, right?! Haha, he's a good guy though! =D

Thanks Mrs. Heller ;D

Great caricature man! I've NEVER been able to capture people's liknenesses, this guy looks more like a football coach than an art teacher! I also like the scientific name you gave him like the old Road Runner cartoons, nice!
