Tiki!

I tried something a little different with my new Drawer Geeks submission this week. After scanning in my initial pencil sketch, I inked and colored it all in Flash. It was cool and different. I don't think I've ever tried to get a clean final line from Flash so it was a neat experiment.

After messing around with colors in Flash, I then exported the image into Photoshop where I overlaid paper and wood textures adjusting their opacity, levels, and curves. All in all, kind of a neat look!

Dummy and Baldy!

I was doing caricatures at the 555 gallery last night for their Thursday night view but since it was really slow, I was able to goof off a bit and do some good ol' stupid drawings. Enjoy!

One Hulk of a Guy!

I've just been aching to draw a caricature of one of my painting professors, Erik Olson. He's one beast of a man, a force to be reckoned with, and one heck of a painter/teacher. I did a quick marker rendering of this drawing and posted it on his office door this past weekend. Too bad I didn't get a scan of that version but I was too busy running for my life.

Caveman!

So for the last couple weeks, I've been putzing around with this naked caveman painting in Artrage. It was kind of fun to have a project to keep coming back to here and there at my leisure. It was also a great exercise in digital painting and playing around with some textures I found on the interweb. But really this was just a great excuse to draw a a bunch of hair and gross details which is all too fun!

Uncle John's Wine Labels!

That's right, sometimes I get called to do fun assignments like these cartoon hootch labels! Actually, it's really nice homemade wine that a local cider mill brews up.

Throughout the last few years I've been able to do a lot of their T-shirt designs, logos, and about 5 of these wine labels. These have been a blast to work on. I even get to write the fun "legend has it" folklore on the left-hand side. What a deal!

Here's some process work of the "Franc N Berry/Cherry" character (The concept of the character/name was thought up by the client. However, it is spelled differently and looks different than the General Mills character so I doubt they'll get any stink for it):

Fun with Oils

I haven't worked with oils too much but am diving into them with a blind naivety that would make any true painter raise his eyebrow in confusion. I played around with a couple small studies the other night and am working on two paintings right now. Have a great Sunday everyone!
