Adventure Time!

OMG (Oh my glob) have you seen the new Adventure Time comic book series from Boom Studios? It's pretty awesome. I'm happy to say I'm doing a bunch of covers for the series and so I wanted to show some process work from the first cover.

First, I sent these 2 rough layouts to my editors, Adam and Shannon:

We all agreed we liked the layout drawing below (although the pose of Finn riding Jake from the layout drawing above made its way onto the cover of issue #2) but we needed to move some stuff around. I thought the cover was simply going to be a wrap-around so I put Finn and Jack on the right side or "front" of the cover. Boom wanted to split up the illustration into two stand alone covers that when put side by side, would form the full illustration. Cool!

Adam had the great suggestion of putting Jake on the left side of the illustration and stretch his high-fiving arm throughout the whole scene. Double cool!

Then, I cleaned the whole thing up and got the characters on-model:

Lastly, I inked the beast and washed my hands clean of it as Kassandra colored it. Hope you like it!

Seriously guys, you gotta snag a copy of this comic. I received a few advanced copies and loved it. Ryan North is writing the series, Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb are tackling the interiors, and issue #1 features a back-up story by Aaron Renier. There's even an alternate cover by Jeffrey Brown! So go buy a copy, ya turkey!

Also, if you'd like to buy the originals to the covers for AT #1, you can go here.

Tomorrow, I'll post the process to the cover I did for the 2nd printing of AT issue #1...

I wish to express thanks to the writer just for rescuing me from this problem. Right after surfing around throughout the the net and meeting concepts which were not powerful, I figured my life was done. Existing without the strategies to the problems you have resolved by means of your good short article is a critical case, and ones which could have in a negative way damaged my entire career if I had not discovered your web blog. Your primary understanding and kindness in playing with almost everything was very useful. I don't know what I would have done if I had not discovered such a thing like this. I can also at this time look ahead to my future. Thanks so much for your professional and sensible help. I will not hesitate to recommend the blog to anybody who needs support about this subject.
